Suchart House

600 ตร.ม

Suksawat Soi 51, Samut Prakan

Project Brief

A 600 sq.m. residence on Suksawat Soi 51, Samut Prakan — a project rooted in the Thai residential vernacular and committed to engaging it seriously, rather than reducing it to ornament.

The building is organized in the tradition of the Thai compound house: a raised principal volume sitting above a ground-floor colonnade, its upper floors clad in horizontal timber panels, the whole crowned by a multi-tiered hip roof in deep maroon tile with upswept eaves and ornate ridge details. The difference here is in the structural language below — exposed concrete columns replace carved timber, black aluminum frames replace wooden louver panels, and a long pergola connecting the wings is built in steel and concrete rather than wood. The vernacular is quoted precisely where it matters and reinterpreted everywhere else.

Inside, the shift is complete: the interior is contemporary in palette and proportion, with high ceilings, sheer curtains, and warm material finishes that read as modern without forgetting the craftsmanship implicit in the building's exterior. The result is a house that carries its cultural context with confidence — one that neither mimics the past nor ignores it.
