Rachaya Clubhouse
400 ตร.ม
Udon Thani, Thailand
Project Brief
A 400 sq.m. residential estate clubhouse in Udon Thani — one of SOOZ's earlier built works, and a project that established the practice's interest in geometric precision as a primary design instrument.
The building is defined by a single bold gesture: a diagonal lattice of dark steel fins that cuts across the building's corner at an acute angle, disrupting the orthogonal white concrete volumes beneath it. Where the rest of the facade is measured and restrained — full-height glazing, rough stone cladding, a horizontal cantilevered roof — this element introduces tension and arrival, marking the entrance without a conventional canopy or signage.
An existing mature tree is preserved at the heart of the inner courtyard, anchoring the timber deck and softening the building's geometric rigidity. The landscape approach — linear grass strips set flush into the concrete paving — extends the building's language of parallel planes into the ground plane, creating a formal sequence from street to threshold that makes a 400 sq.m. clubhouse read as considerably larger than its footprint.
