OBB Cafe
250 ตร.ม
Charan Sanit Wong, Bangkok
Project Brief
A 250 sq.m. café along Charan Sanit Wong — a thoroughfare that bridges the older residential fabric of Bangkok's west bank with its commercial present. The design takes its roof form from the Thai vernacular — a low-pitched hip roof with dark tile — and places it over a program that is entirely contemporary in material and atmosphere.
The exterior reads as a composition of contrasts: white plaster planes, a vertical timber slat screen, and sage-green accent panels frame a glazed storefront that opens the café to the street without surrendering enclosure. A semi-outdoor colonnade runs along the interior perimeter, its polycarbonate roof filtering diffused daylight through arched white plaster openings — a sequence of thresholds between outside and in.
Inside, the palette pivots to warmer ground: terracotta-red fluted tile wraps the service counter, topped with terrazzo; copper pendants anchor the ceiling above; and a red decorative breeze-block screen divides the dining area from the glazed garden-facing wall. The result is a café with a legible identity — one that wears its colour with confidence while remaining grounded in the quiet craft of its construction.
